The project is about transforming the bed of Garillis torrent, in Limassol, into a vessel for linear communal living.
The collective residential project is always a testing ground. The city is no longer seen as a conglomeration of buildings and private spaces. Instead, it is a network of social changes, where private and public are mixed. In the new residential complex, the introduction of socialisation areas becomes common. Transition spaces are developed which create links with the existing urban fabric.
In this project people are asked to live in mobile compact living cells, but are given (as reimbursement) the torrent area to be used as communal space and as an extension of their very private cell.
Generous collective space is created. This space includes communal facilities as well as public spaces, where communal activities can take place. Both communal and public facilities are complementary to the private cells.
An over-ground rail system is constructed to carry the mobile living cells. Communal facilities are provided as “stations” where the living cells can “park”.
Communal facilities include a linear communal gym, secluded swimming lakes, and covered space for exercising, recreation and cooking.
Public facilities include a linear park, public roads, bicycle paths, pedestrian paths, a public artificial beach and public “squares” with water features.
