I’m Permanence: Μαραθώνιος Παραστατικών Διαλέξεων με θέμα την Μονιμότητα

Τι μπορεί ενδεχομένως να θεωρηθεί ως «σταθερό»; Υπάρχει «μονιμότητα» στον ταχέως εξελισσόμενο κόσμο του σήμερα; Στις 9 Απριλίου 2017 μεταξύ 17:00-20:00 στο Σατιρικό Θέατρο Λευκωσίας, διεθνείς και Κύπριοι καλλιτέχνες από ένα ευρύ φάσμα εκφραστικών κλάδων θα συναντηθούν για μια πρωτότυπη ανοικτή σειρά παραστατικών διαλέξεων και διαδραστικών συζητήσεων με το κοινό με στόχο την αμφισβήτηση και η διερεύνηση των μοντέλων {και “αντι-μοντέλων”} των εννοιών της μονιμότητας και της παροδικότητας.

Οι Παραστατικές Διαλέξεις διοργανώνονται από το ABR – Alternative Brains Rule, ο Μη Κερδοσκοπικός Οργανισμός με εξειδικευμένη δράση και όραμα στην οργάνωση υψηλής ποιότητας εναλλακτικών βιωματικών εκδηλώσεων, γνωστός στη Κύπρο αλλά και το εξωτερικό για το ετήσιο φεστιβάλ Afro Banana Republic. Το φετινό ABR IN LAB απορρέει από το πετυχημένο πρόγραμμα φιλοξενίας καλλιτεχνών του περασμένου έτους, όπου δια μέσω διεπιστημονικής συνεργασίας προέκυψε η καινοτόμος έκθεση «Cuprum».

Το καστ των διαλέξεων “I’m Permanence” συμπεριλαμβάνει αρχιτέκτονες, street artists, light και space artists, κοινωνικούς ανθρωπολόγους, φουτουριστές, ψυχολόγους κ.α. Η Victoria Coeln, ο Philipp Mecke, η Ana Filipovic, ο Αλέξης Καρκώτης, ο Παναγιώτης Προεστός, ο Αχιλλέας Κεντώνης, ο Κωνσταντίνος Κυπριανού και ο Βασίλης Βασιλείου θα παρευρεθούν σε βιωματικό εργαστήρι για να αναλύσουν έννοιες όπως η εμπειρία, η μνήμη, η κοινωνική συμπεριφορά, η σύνθεση, η υλικότητα, η εφήμερη αρχιτεκτονική και η τεχνολογία του οποίου το συλλογικό αποτέλεσμα θα εμπνεύσει την κατεύθυνση και τον χαρακτήρα των δημοσίων παραστατικών διαλέξεων στο Σατιρικό Θέατρο.

«Ο σύγχρονος τρόπος ζωής αναπτύσσεται με ταχείς ρυθμούς, ενώ οι κοινωνικές ανάγκες και οι μέθοδοι έκφρασης βρίσκονται σε συνεχή ροή. Αυτό που θεωρείτο παλαιοτέρα ως σταθερό και μόνιμο, δεν έχει πλέον σημασία» λέει ο συνιδρυτής του ABR και ένας από τους επιμελητές της επικείμενης εκδήλωσης, Κωνσταντίνος Κυπριανού. «Είτε αντιμετωπίζουμε πολέμους, την προσφυγική κρίση ή την εμμονή μας με το υλισμό στα σύγχρονα αστικά κέντρα, οι άμεσες ανάγκες που προκύπτουν σήμερα, επηρεάζουν ενεργά την κοινωνική συμπεριφορά της κάθε κοινότητας. Με δεδομένες αυτές τις συνθήκες, έχουμε συνειδητοποιήσει ότι η μονιμότητα έχει αρχίσει να χάνει την αξία της με διάφορους τρόπους. Και καθώς η νέα γενιά βιώνει αυτό το φαινόμενο πιο έντονα από ποτέ, είναι αυτή ακριβώς την εμπειρία είναι που επιθυμούμε να εξερευνήσουμε».

Διερευνώντας την μεθολογία της καλλιτεχνικής φιλοξενίας και την έννοια της “παραστατικής διάλεξης” ως πρωτότυπα μέσα καλλιτεχνικού και επιστημονικού διαλόγου το επικείμενο πρόγραμμα επιθυμεί να θέσει καινούργια ερωτήματα, να συμβάλει στη ανάπτυξη νέων τρόπων σκέψης τον πειραματισμό με νέες μεθοδολογίες. Η επερχόμενη δράση θα περιλαμβάνει τη χρήση αρχιτεκτονικών μονάδων και εγκαταστάσεων επιτρέποντας κίνηση ανάλογα με τις ανάγκες της κάθε παραστατικής διάλεξης. Ο απώτερος στόχος είναι η παραγωγή πρωτότυπων μορφων διαδραστικής τέχνης η οποίες, στην επικείμενη περίπτωση, να προσφέρουν μια εναλλακτική φιλοσοφική και αισθητική άποψη για την έννοια της μονιμότητας στην σύγχρονη εποχή που ζούμε.

Τα μέλη του ABR αφοσιωμένα στο να εξερευνούν την υβριδική τέχνη και εφήμερη αρχιτεκτονική, με απώτερο σκοπό την επίτευξη διαδραστικών εμπειριών μέσα σε μια συλλογική κοινότητα. «Οι φιλόσοφοι έχουν καταπιαστεί με την ιδέα της μονιμότητας και της προσωρινότητας εδώ και αιώνες,» λέει ο Κυπριανού. «Δεν θέλουμε να καταλήξουμε σεένα συμπέρασμα, αλλά να ενθαρρύνουμε ένα αυθεντικό διάλογο γύρω από το θέμα.»

What can possibly be deemed ‘constant’? Can there be such a thing as ‘permanence’ in today’s rapidly evolving world? International and local artists across a wide range of disciplines will be uniting for a unique residency leading up to a public Performative Lecture at Nicosia’s Satiriko Theatre, on April 9th 2017, in order to question and explore models and countermodels of permanence and impermanence, while provoking thought and stimulating conversation with the audience.

The cast of this year’s ‘I’m Permanence’ Event is truly remarkable. From architects and street artists, to social anthropologists, light designers, futurists, psychologists and more, this April’s event will involve performance lectures by Victoria Coeln, Philipp Mecke, Ana Filipovic, Alexis Karkotis, Panayiotis Proestos, Achilleas Kentonis, Constantinos Kyprianou and Vasilis Vasiliou. With each one set to share their own distinct knowledge and expertise in an initial workshop prior to the public lectures, they have been encouraged to draw upon notions of experience, memory, social behaviour, composition and technology, and materiality and technology with reference to {im}permanence.

The event is Organised by ABR (Alternative Brains Rule), the Cyprus based non-profit organisation which is dedicated in creating a variety of high quality alternative experiential events, widely known in Cyprus and beyond for the acclaimed annual Afro Banana Republic Festival. This year’s ABR IN LAB event follows up from the success of the organisation’s first residency project last year, which provided a unique look at artistic innovation through multidisciplinary collaboration, culminating in the inspirational ‘Cuprum’ exhibition.

“Modern life is developing rapidly, while public needs and methods of expression are in continual flux. What was previously thought of as constant is no longer relevant,” says ABR founder, and one of the curators of the upcoming event, Constantinos Kyprianou.

“Whether we’re dealing with today’s wars, the refugee crises, or the obsession with materialism in contemporary cities, immediate needs that arise today, actively affect the social behaviour of any community. Given these conditions, we’ve come to realise that permanence has increasingly started to lose its value in numerous ways. And as the young generation experience this phenomenon more intensely than ever, it’s this exact experience we wish to explore.”

The ultimate goal of the upcoming residency and lecture programme is that of posing new questions, raising novel thoughts, and creating unique experiences – while generating original forms of art, life and interactivity – as the artists in question hone in on their common concerns and aspirations, deploying and experimenting with new methodologies and simultaneously creating external networks. While exploring the notion of ‘lecture performance’ as a unique genre at the intersection of artistic and scientific discourse, the collaboration aims to visually translate the performative lecture series in an unfolding narrative.

With ABR always keen to explore the hybrid of ephemeral art and architecture with the ultimate goal of achieving an interactive experience within a collective community, the upcoming event will include the use of installations creating passing movement according to the performative needs of each lecture, for a truly interactive audience experience. An online exhibition and video that will deteriorate as it is played, will also reflect and reinforce the theme of temporality. “Philosophers have been questioning the idea of permanence and temporality for centuries,” says Kyprianou. “We don’t wish to come up with a conclusion, but merely, encourage really exciting discussion and debate around the matter among people of our generation.”
