The project starts with the selection of the subject, and as the exercise was called “A Dwelling for Someone you Love”, the chosen client was my girlfriend. The first idea that came to my mind was express through this project one of her hobbies: picking seashells while she is walking by the shore. Firstly, a maritime environment has to be chosen, in order to achieve a constant presence of water. So all this turned into a private path created through a public beach, by adding some artificial dunes and making a new sense of privacy, as a mysterious way of reaching the dwelling is becoming the entrance of the project.

As a metaphor of this, I continued using the idea of the seashell: a solid envelop that protects the life inside, the project itself. In the end, the project consists of a path that follows a seashell –the dwelling-. Giving materialization to this seashell building, from the outside to the inside, -seeing that they are totally independent-, the shell consists of a solid skin made of warm grey concrete that opens through an incredibly narrow breach that works as the main door. This mysterious gap guides you to the inside, to the interior world, to the coexistence between two opposite personalities: my girlfriend’s and mine. One extrovert and one introvert. The solid outside versus the open-character inside. The concrete versus the glass. As opposed to the homogeneous exterior, the interior is the result of the interaction between two different worlds. Τhe coexistence between spaces specifically designed for each personality, converting the interior into a mixture of wide open or cozy small spaces; filled of light or shadow; built out of concrete, wood or white stucco; curves or straight lines  -depending on its character and functionality-.  These all considerations give richness to the project and functionality to the dwelling.

Το έργο ξεκινά με την επιλογή του θέματος, και λαμβάνοντας υπόψη ότι η άσκηση ονομαζόταν «Μια κατοικία για κάποιον που αγαπάτε», ο επιλεγόμενος πελάτης για μένα ήταν η φίλη μου. Η πρώτη ιδέα που μου ήρθε στο μυαλό ήταν να εκφραστεί μέσα από το έργο αυτό ένα από τα χόμπι της: να παίρνει κοχύλια ενώ περπατάει στην ακτή. Καταρχάς θα έπρέπε να επιλεγεί ένα θαλάσσιο περιβάλλον για να εξασφαλιστεί η συνεχής παρουσία του νερού. Έτσι όλο αυτό μετατράπηκε σε ένα ιδιωτικό μονοπάτι που δημιουργείται μέσα από μια δημόσια παραλία στην οποία προστήθενται κάποιοιτεχνητοί αμμόλοφοι, καθώς και μια νέα αίσθηση ιδιωτικής ζωής, όπου η είσοδος αποτελεί ένα μυστηριώδη τρόπο που φτάνει κανείς στην κατοικία.

Η ιδέα του κοχυλιού συνεχίστηκε ως αλληγορία: ένα στερεό υλικό που προστατεύει την ζωή στο εσωτερικό του. Υλοποιώντας αυτό το κτίριο-κοχύλι, από το  εξωτερικό προς το εσωτερικό, βλέπει κανείς ότι είναι εντελώς αντίθετα. Το κέλυφος αποτελείται από ένα στερεό  φτιαγμένο από σκυρόδεμα, η είσοδος του οποίου γίνεται μέσα από μια πολύ στενή πόρτα. Το χάσμα αυτό, μυστηριωδώς οδηγεί προς τον εσωτερικό  κόσμο, τη συνύπαρξη των ζωντανών. Μια συνύπαρξη δύο αντίθετων προσωπικοτήτων: της φίλης μου και τη δική μου. Μιας  εξωστρεφής και μιας εσωστρεφής. Όπως η σχέση του εξωτερικού με το εσωτερικό και η σχέση του σκυροδέματος με το γυαλί.

Σε αντίθεση με το ομοιογενές εξωτερικό, το εσωτερικό είναι το αποτέλεσμα της αλληλεπίδρασης μεταξύ των δύο διαφορετικών κόσμων. Τη συνύπαρξη χώρων που έχουν σχεδιαστεί ειδικά για κάθε προσωπικότητα. Έτσι το εσωτερικό μετατρέπεται σε ένα μείγμα μεγαλύτερων ή μικρότερων χώρων, με φως ή σκιά, κατασκευασμένων από σκυρόδεμα, ξύλο ή λευκό στόκο, διαμορφωμένων με καμπύλες ή  ευθείες γραμμές – ανάλογα πάντα με τον χαρακτήρα και τη λειτουργικότητα.  Όλα τα παραπάνω προσδίδουν πλούτο στο έργο και λειτουργικότητα στην κατοικία.
