‘Why Cypriot Modernism?’

by Phidias Pavlides, Architect

Phidias Pavlides has been systematically engaged in research on Cypriot Modernism since becoming a columnist for the online architectural journal CY-ARCH. In this lecture he will discuss, from a very personal perspective, why it is worth researching Cypriot Modernism; a subject that apart from mere architectural interest, is associated with concepts of personal and collective memory, as well as the social and cultural history of the island of Cyprus.

(* The lecture will be delivered in Greek.)

‘Fotis Colakides: The legacy of Walter Gropius in Cyprus’

by Costas Colakides, Civil Engineer

The presentation will cover the life and work of the architect Fotis Colakides who was one of the first architects who introduced modern architecture in Cyprus. The studies of Fotis Colakides at prestigious Universities like Columbia and Harvard, where he studied under one of the pioneering masters of modern architecture Walter Gropius, gave him the background to become one of the leading architects in Cyprus realising about 500 buildings including some of the architectural landmarks of Cyprus.

The exhibition will remain open until Friday 22nd May 2015.

Exhibition Opening Hours: Monday – Friday 9:00 – 18:00
